Parisian roof terrace at the Pavillon d’Armenonville

The Pavillon d’Armenonville in Paris offers an exceptional and prestigious backdrop for corporate and private events. The architecturally appealing building hosts guests in six lounges and in a stylish 515 m² roof garden. A host of different vegetables, herbs and edible flowers are grown there in 26 plant beds in which the ZinCo system build-up “Urban Farming” has been installed. In this way, the garden delivers tasty ingredients, fresh from the rooftop, for the gourmet kitchen of the caterer and event manager, Butard Enescot.

Dreiseitl sheds light on the ideas of the "Climate Corona Treaty", the "Healthy Cities in a Postpandemic World" or the "15-Minute City" and reports on new european funding programmes for a green future for cities.

Former department store converted

A lawn for playing and sunbathing in the centre of the town and on a rooftop too. How is that done? As part of the conversion to a modern residential and commercial property, the former Hertie department store was given a completely new structure. A green roof with an area of 850 m² was created by making a deep cut into what was originally a rectangular cuboid building. The ZinCo system build-up “Roof Garden” with Aquatec® was perfect here thanks to its low height, and it was professionally installed by the roof gardeners GRÜN+DACH.

Making good use of underground car parks

What is it like to live in a densely populated area with high road traffic volumes? How do people find parking between the apartment blocks, shopping malls or near work? The ideal situation is where cars are hidden away in underground car parks and flowers and trees are allowed to grow on the exact same spot, and benches, pergolas or playgrounds beckon people to linger a while.

Versatile and extremely flexible

When properly tailored to suit the building, solar energy systems on roofs have huge potential. Today’s systems are perfectly designed for minimum installation effort and maximum yield from operation. It is for this very reason that photovoltaic systems, in particular, are used increasingly in combination with green roofs, as the latter produce considerable synergy effects thanks to their superimposed load and low ambient temperature.

Amager Resource Centre Copenhagen, Denmark

In Copenhagen, an audacious vision for the design of a waste-to-energy plant has become a reality in a highly impressive manner. Since opening at the start of October 2019, the impressive Amager Resource Centre, with its approx. 16,000 m² of roof area, has provided any amount of skiing fun with its four ski lifts. It has various trails for hikers and steps for those who want to walk up the Amager Bakke (mountain) or Copenhill, as the 87 m high “new local mountain” is called.

World Congress of Building Green
September 28th – 30th, 2021 in Berlin

The World Congress of Building Greening 2021 in Berlin is a multi-day event concerning the greening of buildings (greening of roofs, façades and indoor areas) with the associated accompanying topics (e. g. urban climate, rainwater management, sustainability). At the end of the congress, there is the possibility to participate in excursions to special green roofs and façades in Berlin.

The congress will be organised by Bundesverband GebäudeGrün e.V. (BuGG) with the support WGIN an EFB.

In matters of ecology and sustainability, designers and architects are likely to pay increasing attention to roofs. The huge potential here is illustrated by the residential development, Noltemeyer Hoefe in Braunschweig, with its 5,780 m² of green areas, terraces, pathways and driveways, where cars are parked out of sight in the underground garage. The key feature is that the system build-up “Stormwater Management Roof” can store large volumes of rainwater and release them again at pre-set times.
