The new Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is a symbol of education, culture and sustainability, both for the people of Greece and in the wider international context. This project was awarded LEED Platinum Certification and is the largest construction project in recent Greek history. The buildings house the Greek National Opera (NGO) and the National Library of Greece (NLG) and are literally embedded in the open park that stretches over an area of 17 hectares.

To provide architects and planners with state-of-the-art planning tools and help to optimise their workflow, ZinCo build-up systems and products are now available as BIM data files in different formats for free download. Our BIM library will be constantly extended.

The ZinCo system build-up ”Urban Climate Roof” is ”i-NOVO Awards Winner 2017” in the “Eco” class.
About 7,000 m² of green roof contribute to the incorporation of the UWC building complex. Similar to the adjacent hilly landscape, the roofs are undulating like waves. The ZinCo system build-up with Floradrain® FD 40-E provides for the wild greenery on the roofs.
The innovative ZinCo systems “Stormwater Management Roof”, “Urban Climate Roof”, “Irrigated Extensive Green Roof” and “Biodiversity Green Roof” all have revolutionary potential, which is the power to introduce sustainable structural change in the area of green roofing.
The roof garden supplies the kitchen with tasty ingredients and at the same time is part of the educational programme at “Le Cordon Bleu”. In addition, the roof is home to four bee hives and an insect hotel. A wonderful example of urban farming, because rooftops with the right ZinCo green roof are ideal for use as a cultivation area.
Commissioned by Aral AG, the architect Manfred Beier courageously designed a curving green roof in the shape of a wave for a motorway service station. ZinCo supplied the appropriate technology with the system build-up “Pitched Green Roof”.
The new ZinCo system build-up “Irrigated Extensive Green Roof” with its highly efficient capillary irrigation system manages to strike a balance between a cost-effective solution and the permanent proper functioning of a green roof in dry climates.

The conservation of biodiversity (biological diversity) in nature, is considered to be an important basis for human well-being. Green roofs too are capable of contributing to this; it is mainly low-maintenance roofs, that is to say, quite undisturbed green roofs, that are important refuges for various animal and plant species. Beetles, wild bees and butterflies find food and shelter there. However, the development of biodiversity depends to a great extent on how the habitats that are provided for the flora and fauna on a roof are structured.

ZinCo, the innovative green roof manufacturer has developed the “Urban Climate Roof”, a new system build-up and pioneering solution to counteract the heating up of densely populated towns and cities. The “Urban Climate Roof” boasts an extremely high evaporation capacity due to its design with irrigation and special plants and, therefore, provides for the active cooling of the ambient temperature. This allows for existing roof areas to be used directly as additional green areas and to have a positive impact on the urban climate.
