It was a Congress which has no equal. Superlative Green Roof projects, outstanding speakers, top-class presentations and an international collegial atmosphere made the two days at the 4th International Green Roof Congress in Istanbul from April 20–21, 2015 an industry highlight.

A skerry is a small, flat and often rugged rock island typically found along the Baltic coast. And, the 8,000 m² roof garden of the Tivoli Hotels & Congress Center in Copenhagen actually does resemble these rocky reefs. This is due to the fact that the many plant beds with their irregular contours are located like islands in the middle of the extensive pathways. A unique lighting concept means that the elaborate roof garden is an attraction for hotel and congress guests and tourists to Copenhagen even at night-time.

Koe-Bogen, the luxury shopping and office mile in the heart of Duesseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, is shaping the cityscape. It is not only the innovative design of this six-storey complex created by Daniel Libeskind that is extraordinary but also the fact that it has been awarded LEED Platinum Certification for sustainable building.

In the “Rasselbande” kindergarten in Erfurt/Germany, a tube slide goes directly from the green roof down to the ground. Depending on the building and the design requirements, ZinCo can provide various system build-ups for professional greening, including suitable railing solutions that can be installed without roof penetration.

Above the streets of Manhattan, tourists meander beside New York joggers along a densely planted trail. To the East, the view of the Hudson River is unimpeded and towards the West, the view is of the hustle and bustle of city life. This elevated park was formerly a freight rail line that was decommissioned in 1980 and forgotten about. However, thanks to an urban planning competition in 2001 that called for the redesign and retention of the New York “High Line”, for the past five years we have had the longest green roof in the world at 2.3 km, right in the heart of Manhattan.

The new ZinCo system ”natureline“, the very first green roof system worldwide made from renewable resources, was awarded the GaLaBau Innovation Medal for 2014.

Travelling by boat across Lake Constance to Mainau Island you will be treated to views of floral splendour, a Baroque castle and – since March 2014 – the re-designed harbour area on the lakeside around Comturey Tower. The new single-storey Comturey building has an almost 80 m long glazed façade overlooking the lake while its three other sides disappear into the surrounding landscape and its roof is accessible as part of the landscaped gardens.

ZinCo has been awarded third place in the innovation competition “Bio-based Material of the Year 2014“ for "natureline“, its green roof system based on renewable raw materials, unique worldwide.

Hardly any other roof shape allows for such a variety of uses as the flat roof. Depending on the design, a green roof offers a new habitat for fauna and flora and utilizable open and recreational space for people. The more densely populated an urban area the more invaluable is such space. As a pioneer for more than 40 years in matters relating to green roofs, the name ZinCo stands for permanently reliable green roof systems – suitable for any roof and any design.

“Like-A-Leaf“ refers to the extraordinary architectural design of the new playhouse in Plaswijckpark, Hillegersberg, Rotterdam, which it is incorporated into the surrounding landscape just “like a leaf”. In addition to the extraordinary shape, it is the playhouse green roof in particular, approx. 1000 m² in size and with a pitch of up to 55°, that allows the building to merge with its natural surroundings. The ZinCo green roof systems that are used are specifically designed to suit the site and are adapted to the varying roof pitches.
